Solar System Experience

  • BirlingGap-1

Workshop Category: Planetarium and SpaceWorkshop Tags: planetarium, solar system, and space topic

Suitable for KS1 and above, this planetarium show gives the audience a good grasp of the Sun, planets and moons in the Solar System. Students learn about the Sun, together with the major planets, asteroids, dwarf planets and the theoretical Planet Nine, plus some other odd things in the Kuiper Belt. Planet facts and info are tailored to suit the age and ability of each class.

Participants will be wowed by a 30 minute immersive film about Solar System exploration; followed by a 30-60 minute tour of the Solar System using real time, digital planetarium software; the show concludes with a 30 minute interactive Q&A workshop in the dome to consolidate the learning throughout the day.

The last module of the show can be completely child focused, with the students asking questions about the Solar System, its place within the Galaxy, the fate of the Sun, and how it all works! This part of the show runs particularly well if the children prepare questions beforehand as a classroom activity. The planetarium tour and workshop includes mini film clips and fulldome simulations to give this awesome workshop that extra wow factor!

A typical show will last 1.5 – 2 hours. And as the show can be split into modules, multiple shows can be interspersed with morning break and lunch.

Feedback on Solar System Experience

“We just wanted to say, on behalf of our Year 5 class and the teachers, a big thank you. Your presenter was incredible, so knowledgeable, engaging and professional and the children gained such a lot from the morning inside the dome.” Class Teacher, St Mary’s Hare Park School, Essex
