Moorenotes provides ready made music workshops based on pieces composed for string and jazz groups. There is a specific composition page with samples (audio and visual score) of pieces written, many of which can be purchased with a link to practical workshops to enable students/adults to compose their own pieces e.g. jazz blues pieces with links to composing riff ideas and improvisation or composing interlocking melodic ideas in specific string pieces etc…
There are also tailor-made workshops to accommodate for your specific needs around rhythm ensemble, steel band, jazz and string groups and song writing projects. Recently I was asked to lead a samba based rhythmic idea for Year 7 within a local school. During the past year I have also led song writing projects (including commissioned pieces) and a rock school for a Youth Club. In addition to this I have led steel band workshops for both Primary and Secondary schools and a community steel band for a Music School.

Compositions include:

2 volumes of Jazz music, each containing 4 contrasting pieces, suitable for Intermediate and above players. Each pack contains a score and parts (including for rhythm section). In addition, Volume 3 will be published Summer 2018. There is also 1 volume ‘Simply Jazz’ with parts for both beginner and elementary standard players.
The pieces can be purchased individually or as a volume.
2 volumes of string orchestra (adapted also for string quartet and quintet), each containing 2 contrasting pieces. These are intended for intermediate and above players. There is a new volume of String Orchestra (and adaptation of these for Strings, piano and drums) entitled ‘Fourtunes’ to be published for Summer 2018. There will be parts suitable for both Elementary and Intermediate standard of players.
The pieces can be purchased individually or as a volume.
A volume of songs written for Secondary School aged students which can be sung in unison 2 part or 3 part.
The pieces can be purchased individually or as a volume.
A volume of songs intended for Primary school students, containing 6 pieces, covering KS1 and 2. These are Rounds, Unison songs or Part songs. There is a new volume of Primary School songs to be published during 2018.
The pieces can be purchased individually or as a volume.

Feedback from workshops:

‘A lot of us were stressed out about improvisation but I think the way you did it was great when you’re really not confident, as we weren’t singled out’: Fran (Ten Sax player for Kirklees Jazz)
‘Really enjoyed the experience of working with you on new piece. Felt that we (the band) were making a contribution to your music’: Trev, Baritone Sax player (Farnley Tyas Jazz)
‘My son has really enjoyed attending the song writing workshop and now feels much more confident when he plays in his own band’: Parent (Song Writing Workshop, Huddersfield).
‘The song writing workshop was a really useful way to learn about techniques used in music’: Parent (Song Writing Workshop, Huddersfield)

Feedback from compositions:

‘An explosion of Afro beats and catchy melodies, Jerry Moore’s ‘Africa’ keeps toes tapping and provides a refreshing contrast to our big band set’: Amanda (Director of Honley Dance Orchestra)
‘I thought ‘JT Blues’ was a really catchy tune, not difficult to sight read and was very enjoyable to play for the first time. We will practice this and include playing it in our future gigs’: Lynda, Alto Sax (Nytebeat Jazz Group)
‘Makes You Happy’ would be lovely for younger children using one part or more: Amanda (Wakefield Music School)
‘Blow Away The Blues’ has a great swing feel and catchy melody. A great way to introduce part singing and 12 bar blues classroom work, ideal for my Year 5’s: Amanda (Wakefield Music School)
