Stories are one of the most powerful educational tools you have. We run a range of workshops for teachers and early years practitioners to help you unlock the power of stories. We run the workshops in schools, nurseries and local authority settings.

Workshops include:
NEW for 2018 – Safeguarding Through Stories

Stories can be a great way for a child to talk about their problems because it doesn’t have to be
about them. They can use a story to express themselves and their feelings in a way which is nonthreatening and allow them to open up. Stories are also a great way to teach children what behaviours are normal and what aren’t normal. This workshop will look at how you can use stories, props and storytelling techniques to help with safeguarding issues and help identify child that are at risk or are being abused, for you to then initiate your setting’s safeguarding procedure.

How to get children to interact with stories

This workshop will explore creative literacy as an approach to learning. Creative literacy brings
together stories and creative activities for children to use to interact with stories to embed learning and increase engagement. This hands on workshop will teach you simple craft activities that can be linked to stories and how to build interaction with a story.

Story Writing for Reluctant Writers

Using our experience as authors we will teach you creative ways you can engage your reluctant writers. Often reluctant writers need something tangible to stimulate their ideas and help them organise their thoughts. We will also teach you storytelling games to play with the children to develop their story writing.

Big Books and Puppets for Children with EAL

Learn how to use big books and puppets to help those with English as an additional language (EAL). You will learn how to use big books effectively and how to use puppets to increase engagement.

Storytelling in the classroom

Do you want to keep your children’s attention? Storytelling helps children to visualise a story in their
own minds which in turn enables them to develop their own stories. This hands on workshop will teach the basics of how to remember and tell a story orally, how to use hooks to keep you on track, devices to keep everyone’s attention and how to bring stories to life.

Workshops for Parents:

Not all parents are able to read to their children. We have a workshop to help them develop stories with their children through games that can be played anywhere.

What do others say about us?

‘Little Creative Days have delivered many interactive story-telling workshops for Early Years Practitioners across Swindon. These have been extremely well received and the feedback has been so positive that we will certainly be asking them back for more!’ Elaine Ellis Swindon BC Early Years Team

‘We ran 2 workshops on a Saturday morning that were tailored to our needs. Our staff thoroughly enjoyed it, even our less experienced girls who were afraid of making a fool of themselves in front of the workshop teachers. We are looking at making a future booking as we have seen the practice of storytelling improve immensely since running our workshop’ Rosaleen Monk, Poplars Day Nursery
