Why is our ancient Egypt workshop is simply awesome? Firstly it is our artefacts. We use in the session : 2 x Genuine Egyptian Shabati dated 300 – 350BC ; Reproduction Canopic Jars ; Reproduction Nefertiti headdress ; Also, you can choose to either meet Ramses II, famous Pharaoh of the New Kingdom or Cleopatra VII, the last Queen of Egypt in our Ancient Egyptian Workshop.
Your students will begin by building a timeline dating back to the Ancient Egyptian civilisation. Taking a look at some significant events in our history to help your students understand when exactly the Egyptian civilisation was!
A Typical Ancient Egypt Session
After the introduction of the Character, your class we will create a representation of the Ancient Egyptian landscape with a focus on the key features such as the importance of the River Nile to Egyptian life.
Through a series of drama games together we will explore all the things you need to know about building a great pyramid! How did they move those heavy Limestone block? How did they make them straight and why does a pyramid have to point directly to true north?
The session will end with a journey to the afterlife by discovering how to mummify a dead Pharaoh. The details of this process are quite gruesome, and they will need a strong stomach to discover all of the information. The Practitioner will take them step by step through the mummification process and ask for volunteers to aid in the demonstration if anyone is brave enough! The dead Pharaoh will then embark on their journey through the Duat avoiding a multitude of monsters using spells from the book of the dead. Will they be granted entry into the Land of Two fields?
Finally, your students can question the Pharaoh to discover what life was like in Ancient Egypt. This encourages the development of their soft skills. Followed by an exciting trivia round to test what your students have learnt with more fun facts thrown in for good measure. Â This segment combines a game show structure with fascinating Egyptian stories and facts. Can they beat the score of all the other schools our workshop has visited? Of course, they can! After all, they’ve got the power of the gods on their side!
